How a Decade of Healing Became the Soft Self-Discovery Guide I Wish I Had
For years, I lived in high-functioning survival.
On the outside, I looked accomplished. I was married, raising a child, building businesses, earning degrees, serving communities. I carried it all. For everyone.
But on the inside?
I was exhausted.
Spiritually depleted.
Disconnected from myself in a way I didn’t even know how to name.
On top of that, I didn’t know that I was neurodivergent.

🕊️ The Burnout We Don’t Talk About
There’s a particular kind of burnout that happens to Black women — especially those of us who have always been “the strong one.”
It’s the kind that hides behind success, service, and silence.
It’s not just about being tired. It’s about not recognizing who you are anymore.
In my 30’s, something shifted in me.
Not dramatically, but softly. Almost imperceptibly at first.
It started as a whisper:
There has to be more than this.
More than performing. More than producing.
More than being everybody’s everything.
And slowly, I began to surrender.
Ultimately, I experienced a collapse of my entire life at one time. Neurodivergent burnout is diabolical; a frightening type of exhaustion and nervous breakdown that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. My career, marriage, business, and chosen family were gone.
And so, off I went into an intensive three years of healing and recovery. I took time away from the world to recover my mind and create a new life. Through trial and error, I figured out a combination of healing modalities that helped me redefine my existence, discover who I really am, and craft a softer way of living.
🌿 My Decade of Healing Looked Like This:
- Learning to listen to my nervous system, not override it
- Discovering that rest isn’t just sleep — it’s spiritual, emotional, and creative
- Exploring my astrology, MBTI, and Enneagram — not for labels, but for language
- Sitting in therapy, grief, silence, and sacred rage
- Letting go of roles I had outgrown: the caretaker, the buffer, the “good girl”
- Unmasking my neurodivergence and learning to honor my rhythms
- Rebuilding my life as if I were someone I deeply loved
It wasn’t quick. It wasn’t linear. But it was holy.
